AND EBAY, MASTERCARD, VISA!
“The first serious infowar is now engaged,” EFF co-founder John Perry Barlow tweeted on Friday. “The field of battle is WikiLeaks. You are the troops.”
readwriteweb.com/archives/the_weakest_link_what_wikileaks_has_taught_us_abou.php Despite the arguments that Amazon, PayPal, and others make about the illegality of the leaked documents, it’s not clear that Wikileaks has broken any law. It is clear that some politicians and pundits wish it to be so, most often invoking the Espionage Act as justification. The Espionage Act makes it a crime to interfere with military recruitment or to convey information dealing with national defense. Since its passage in 1917 (Red Scare, anyone?), the law has been challenged a number of times in the courts, most notably with regards to the Pentagon Paperswhen the Supreme Court ruled that The New York Times was within its rights to publish the leaked information. “Conveying” government secrets is a crime; “publishing” them is not. It is protected by the First Amendment, and for the government to intervene to prevent that from happening is unconstitutional.

readwriteweb.com/cloud/2010/12/amazon-explains Amazon.com issued a statement today regarding its decision to stop hosting Wikileaks’ main site yesterday, claiming the organization’s site violated the Amazon Web Services terms of service and that the content was endangering peoples’ lives. Interestingly, by this measure the company would not have hosted the Pentagon Papers The New York Times published in 1971. <<Amazon itself should loose quite a few clients in response, after all we could leave without Amazon also.>>
readwriteweb.com/archives/ facebook: we are not kicking wikileaks off our site ReadWriteWeb’s question, by email: “Does Facebook have a statement on the Wikileaks account there? Will it be allowed to continue publishing, despite government calls to stop doing business with the organization? Is Facebook considering shutting down the account?” Facebook’s response, from Andrew Noyes, the company’s D.C. based Manager of Public Policy Communications: “The Wikileaks Facebook Page does not violate our content standards nor have we encountered any material posted on the page that violates our policies.” That’s notably different from what Twitter told us today. Twitter passed around a press statement this morning stating that it is not censoring Wikileaks from its “trending topics” section, but when we asked point blank about whether it will permit the Wikileaks account to remain online or whether it will be shut down, Twitter’s Matt Graves told ReadWriteWeb, “We’ve got no additional comment beyond the statement.”

When there are elections we must vote, especially in my country we could say that all parties are same shit. But every vote counts, the worst thing is to be an anarchist, nihilist without ends, results. There are people saying so and so about WikiLeaks, for me even if the issues raised AGAINST Assange are true, I know very clearly that I have to vote and I know very clearly that I vote with Assange no matter what, just considering the overall picture. This is my vote, I will boicott PayPal, Amazon and eBay and I will tell all my friends to do the same. And the boicott should not be forever, if millions would do this thing right now that it would be good enough to make the boicott only for a short period of time.
I think this is the only way we can do something meaningfull!! Spread the word and act!!
